Falcón tierra de locos, locainas y parrandas

Abstract

In Venezuela there are several popular manifestations, framed in the tradition of the people, which differ in their form and expression, although they all maintain the essence of honoring the innocents, remembering the infants massacred by order of King Herod. For this reason, every December 28 there is a colorful celebration in Venezuela. Venezuelans dress up to remember the day of the Holy Innocents in a unique celebration in the world: the locos y locainas. In a great part of the national territory, the party of the locos and locainas takes place, a celebration that begins, in some localities on December 27 with the departure of the mojiganga and the dawn of December 28, attending mass early in the morning. At the end of the Eucharist, the locos and locainas, dressed in colorful costumes and masks, go through the streets of towns and communities visiting the homes of friends and acquaintances, accompanied by musical groups native to each entity.
